Like a
family set up, educational institution too provide a significant environment
for training and development of virtues necessary for social interaction. In an
ancient days children were sent to the boarding- houses known as Gurukuls with
the specific objective of development of personality in the highly charged
cultured environment which characterised those institutions. In Gurukuls, the
role of guardians was played by the teachers and maternal affection, protection
and support was being provide by the consorts of Gurus. In such an environment
the children naturally did not suffer from home- sickness.
